Why is the secret agent the object of our fictive obsession?
Is it because we are not sure who this war is against, who the criminal is or even the exact nature of the crime....
There's just the sense that there is a secret, and the One who covertly seeks to reveal that secret.
The secret agent is a shadowy figure, not simply an agent of the Law but often a fugitive from it too.
